Quick Pallet Maker Example - Calculate Pallets with Overhang
This example explains how to load a pallet with items that overhang. In other words, the pallet contents (wooden boards) are larger than the shipping pallet itself.
Open a new document window starting from box on File > New Data Sheet > Start from Box.
Set the units to inches and pounds on Tools > Units > in/lbs.

We will consider the boards as boxes since they are placed directly on a pallet (they can be considered secondary packaging). Enter the box dimensions on by one or copy and paste the data on the input window. Click here to download the box list.
- 84x36x0.75, weight 10, amount 3.
- 84x24x0.75, weight 10, amount 6.
- 30x30x0.75, weight 5, amount 4.
- 30x24x0.75, weight 5, amount 8.
- 30x6x0.75, weight 5, amount 13.
- 36x24x1, weight 6, amount 22.

Change the pallet type to CHEP 48x40 in. on the Pallet Dimensions menu and on Max Load Dimensions set 84 in. as length because of the size of the biggest board we are packing.

Use the Calculate Box Shipment option from the Tools menu.

On the Available Solutions window we obtain a pallet with plenty of overhang but with all of the boards.

Use Window > Detailed Report and then click on the Pallet Views tab to view the pallet views with the box details.

You can also generate a report with the box details by using File > Print Report from the Available Solutions window.
